Do you believe fermat himself actually had a proof for his last theorem?

you know, ive thought about this a lot. I believe that he truly thought that he had a proof, but that it was wrong. the actual proof is over 100 pages (which is longer than the marginal space as he said). this seems too big of a proof for an amateur mathematician (no insult to fermat, but he is technically classified as an amateur mathematician)
