Car A/C problem. Light comes on but Compressor doesnt engage?

I have a 1991 Toyota Tercel with factory a/c. When i push the A/C button, the light comes on but the compressor doesn't engage. Now it uses a magnetic clutch to engage the a/c. The first thing the Haynes book says to check is the relay switch way the hell up under the dash. But im wondering, if the light comes on, is the relay switch still good? If the relay switch is good, then what should i check next? Thanks for any advice/ help. -Robert

first guess is that your cables from the battery,(red goes to your starter,black goes to your cars body or engine body),your cables are not getting a good connection somewhere.second guess,your starter relay switch(usually located in plastic box under your hood,that flips open and describes each relay and fuse purpose)your relay might be bad.third guess is that your starter has gone out.it is also possible that you clutch safety switch has gone bad(located above your clutch pedal inside,your clutch will push and release this when it is pressed.this switch will not let you crank your car if it is bad.hope this is a simple description

Well sure - dead bodies of animals out in the woods feed entire huge species of bugs and other animals. Human bodies in America are buried in such secure graves that I don't imagine they're allowed to decompose - it's just some stupid thing that Americans are into because we're so rich.
